What would you like your character's tag to be?: Ensign Ro
Answer the following questions in no less than 300 words but no greater than 1000 words put together...
Character's background (their past and present):
Ro Laren grew up in in a camp under Cardasian rule, watching her people suffer, watching her father being tortured for information, watching him cry, scream, and finally die. Refusing to be that weak, refusing to be defeated, she found a way to run away and wound up at the Academy. Ro's style has always been cold and hard, willing to make the hard choices, unfortunately even when they're not needed, and she does not keep herself from saying when an order is stupid - or doing what she thinks is right.
Even Picard thought she would be of a higher rank... if she hadn't been court martialed for a failure to follow orders... which got 8 people killed on an away team. She was lured out of prison to take an assignment on the Enterprise by an Admiral with a hidden agenda because he was being played for a fool. On advice of Guinan, she confessed her secondary orders, and together they brought the whole issue to a neat close. Picard allowed her to wear her Bajoran earring.
She stayed on the Enterprise, forming an odd friendship with Guinan, and dealing with a growing animosity with Riker. She was a good officer for the most part, however, her mouth often gets her into trouble.
In 2369, Ro was on a shuttle-craft coming back from shore leave with three others, when they passed through an anomaly. Trying to beam them back lead to complications... leaving Ro, Picard, Keiko, and Guinan as children. A band of unaffiliated Ferengi took over the Enterprise, sending most of the adults to serve as slaves on the planet below. By acting as kids with cunning, Ro and the others took back the ship. Guinan got Ro to act a bit more like a child during this time, so much so that Ro was still in the lounge, drawing a picture of her mother while the others were restored to their right age. So of course that was the EXACT moment that Q grabbed her... while she was showing her picture, and coloring with the now adult Guinan.
Character's personality:
Ro is... prickly. She's hard, because there is so much fear in her. She is determined to never let fear win, to never be defeated. She refuses to let herself be soft and sentimental. She tries so hard to be the cold one, the one who can make the tough heartless calls, she tries so hard to convince herself she is cold and heartless.
But life keeps conspiring to make her see her softer side. Thinking she was dead, becoming a child again, loosing her memory... But she still refuses to embrace her inner kindness. She'd rather keep people at arm's length, because she wants to be ready at any time to be the one to voice the unpopular opinion.
Character's skills/abilities/powers: She is an academy trained Starfleet officer.
Any special equipment your character is bringing along? This includes weaponry, magic items, etc.:Crayons, her drawing of her mother, her uniform, her pips, her comn badge. Up to you all if she arrives with her Phaser, just let me know. It's not specified one way or the other if she has one after the Ferengi are gone.

Why do you want to play this character in Ten Forward, and what do you plan to do with them?
I really want to see Ro dealing with an Enterprise where so many people were kids... but their cure wont work for her. Where death isn't permanent (Um, Tasha Yar anyone?), and the hard choices are so very different. I also kind of am hoping that at some point there will actually be a Cardassian on board so she can wind up in the Brig again. I want to see her dealing with a Geordi who doesn't remember being "dead" with her, a Picard who doesn't remember deciding to trust her, a Deanna who never considered her advice, and a Guinan who has never met her. A Riker that only knows her by her record...again... could also be fun!
I mean really, she is ALIVE during this star date. She's going to wonder if she's in jail still or did she just vanish. So many fun things to explore when she has all her character development, but the rest of the world still sees her as the woman who disobeyed orders and got 4 members of the away team killed.
